Joomla in action With Linux
For the past some weeks i have been testing with Joomla CMS for my project and i got hold of some few books to get know better. To be frank it is easy to manage the site that is built on Joomla once you come to know of how they work and what the various plugs of the sytems does.
I have tested Joomla with Windows and in Ubuntu and in both of these there is great differece between Joomla in Windows and in Ubuntu. The great difference between those both is the PERFORMANCE ISSUE.
The performance of Ubuntu is far more better than the windows installation of Joomla. More over with Ubuntu the site loads in a fly. But with windows vista to be specific. It takes times when loading the site.
For the coming weeks i will post off steps of installtion and running Joomla CMS in ubuntu. I will keep it simple to the maximum.

Fedora unleashes sulphur
Finally Fedora project is going the next mile by releasing today the much awaited Fedora Sulfur. The greatest improvement is putting up live CD without directly installing to test the OS. I guess the guys got the idea form Ubuntu Software model. Nowadays all of them are putting up live CD’s. It all started with the Ubuntu when it started to give in with live cd to test Ubuntu and install later.
Ok Coming back to Fedora i have checked out some screen shots from the web and almost all features are same as of Fedora8 with little bit of improvements here and there. For the complete release summary check out www.fedoraproject.org. The wallpaper in fedora9 is similar to the Mac OS X default wallpaper. In Mac the wallpaper the lights goes outward from bottom to up in fedora9 it goes from top to bottom. But it looks good. Keep up with the good work guys.
Ok enough for my words lets visualize FEDORA 9

My experiences with Linux
For the past months i have tried with different kind of Linux distribution for a test drive. Each and every distribution has its own advantages and disadvantages. The following distributions are the ones i tested so far
- Fedora 7/8.
- Ubuntu 7.10/8.
- Suse linux 10.2/10.3.
- FreeBSD.
Ok let me scrutinize one by one of their advantages and disadvantages solely by my own experience.
1.FEDORA 7/8
This is a great distribution and product from Redhat Inc. For those who are looking for how redhat os is going to be you can test with this distribution. Being myself an RHCE i would prefer to use this to get the practice of what is in the RHCE modules.
I have tried installing in an old Pentium III processor and the fedora works ok with 128MB of ram in it. I have also tried installing in Compaq Presario laptop V6000 series and it worked great with no much of big fuss. But there was problem in the screen resolution of the computer. It always sets it screen resolution to maximum of 1024×768 only. My laptop uses a nvidia card and broadcom wireless cards. I would try to set the resolution to 1280X800 it would ask for a log off and then when i log in again it would go back to 1024×768. I really got frustrated with it and it took me a lot of time in figuring out. But I could not figure out any way. Another problem is that I could not enable my wireless network and finding a solution for it cost me lot of time and since i have others things to roll on i just left and switched to Ubuntu
2.UBUNTU 7.10/8.04
This is one great Linux distribution that i still use it. There was not much a problem in finding the right packages and help from the community in enabling wireless and the resolutions and moreover its easy to use and administer. Even in this case i had problem with wireless network but within some matter of time i was able to set it up with the help of good documentation in the community.
I have tried installing to my old Pentium III processor computer and my laptop and they both worked great. Even in the lowest ram it worked without much fuss.
Ubuntu has great market all over the world and i guess this will be the next distribution that will get wider acceptance with improvements in user interfaces.
Ubuntu automatically detects everything on the hardware and find the right package for the need. This is just a great distribution…
3.SUSE LINUX 10.2/10.3
This is another distribution from the Novell Inc. This also a great distribution with faster development cycles but the installation takes so much time and KDE didn’t much appeal to me as they keep default in their distribution. It would be better if SUSE has live CD’s as Ubuntu does
4.FreeBSD
This not for the ordinary users and it is for the elite power user and the it is based on the old and strong UNIX . I guess most servers use this. If you want to try for the home use you can try PC BSD. I couldn’t catch up with the installation instructions so i just gave up on the first screen installation.
